Brief Description

Foothills is seeking Athletic Trainers to support professional sports teams in Phoenix and Tucson. This position provide sports medicine outreach services to professional teams contracted with Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy. While servicing a professional team, the Athletic Trainer (AT) will report directly to the team Head Athletic Trainer (HAT), fulfilling the (6) domains of athletic training as well as community outreach and relations. This position supports both clinical and sports related athletic training responsibilities. Additional duties include but are not limited to, assisting Foothills Physical Therapist with all aspects of patient care and overall efficiency of clinical operations. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Care for the health and well-being of the team personnel within the scope of practice permitted by his/her education and training as set forth in the regulations at Arizona Athletic Training Practice Act, Arizona Revised Statues, Title 32, Chapter 41 and as further delineated in the Athletic Training Standards of Practice and the Athletic Training Practice Domains for the Athletic Trainer (BOC): 
  • Athlete/Physician consultation.
  • Daily treatment planning/execution, taping and other prevention measures.
  • Post-game reporting and record keeping.
  • Physical rehabilitation for players.
  • Locker room setup and breakdown.
  • Inventory and ordering of supplies.
  • Attend practices, games, therapy sessions, strength training, and events as directed by the HAT.
  • Duties as assigned by the coaching staff and HAT.
  • Off-Season duties would be negotiable to include but not be limited to, clinical duties and community outreach. 


  • Working knowledge of NATA Position Statements, BOC Best Practices and the Arizona Athletic Training Practice Act
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills dealing with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Ability to act with integrity in regards to all matters of confidentiality.
  • Great communication skills with coaches, athletic trainers, athletes and physical therapist.
  • Ability to build relationships within the community and with clientele.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • AZ licensed Athletic Trainer.
  • NATA BOC Certified.
  • Good standing with NATA.
  • CPR/First Aid/ AED for Healthcare Providers.
  • Valid & current driver’s license.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional work environment. Travel between locations and to meetings will be necessary. Environment can be moderate to noisy at times.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to talk; hear; stand; walk; sit; bend; use hands to type; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position is subject to lifting objects up to 100 pounds occasionally.


Travel Required:
Travel between locations, out of town competitions, and to meetings will be necessary as needed.
